Pleased to Meet You: Kate Hindley

[ENG] Today's Pleased to Meet You should also be on the How cool is that section?! but I just want to spend a little more time with this wonderful illustrator and show you a little bit of her work. 

Kate Hindley is a british illustrator settled in Birmingham (not far from the chocolate factory, as she says). 

She studied illustration at Falmouth College of Art and went on to work for two years as a children's print designer in Northampton, whilst working freelance on children's books and greetings cards.

She has exhibited her work across the UK and has published different childs books. 

Her illustrations are so cute! You can buy her work on etsy (although she's having a short vacation lately) and on Society6 .

[CAT] El Pleased to Meet You d'avui potser hauria d'anar a la secció de How cool is that però és que us volia ensenyar amb més calma la feina tant xula d'aquesta il·lustradora. La Kate Hindley és una il·lustradora anglesa afincada a Birmingham (prop de la fàbrica de xocolata, com diu ella). 

Va estudiar il·lustració a l'escola d'art de Falmouth i va anar a treballar per un parell d'anys com a dissenyadora infantil a Northampton, mentre treballava d'autònom fent llibres infantils i postals de felicitació.

Ha exposat a diferents punts del regne unit i ha publicat llibres infantils.

I molen tant les seves il·lustracions! Si mai les voleu comprar, en trobareu a etsy (tot i que ara està temporalment aturada) o a Society6.

I és que...heu provat mai de dutxar un mamut llanut? Bé, doncs ella ho explica aquí, i sembla prou complicat.

Pleased to Meet You: Anu Tuominen

Fingerprints

[ENG] The first Pleased to Meet You of the year is dedicated to the finnish artist Anu Tuominen and her wonderful work.  She is a conceptual artist that explores, among other themes, methods of translating linguistic ideas into visual equivalent.

I first discovered her when I saw some pictures from her Fingerprints exhibition where she was using crocheted potholders as the main material source.

The way she uses colour is hipnotizing and relaxing at the same time. She reminds me of some of The Dainty Squid's pictures (her beach treasures)  who is always a source for inspiration and amusement.

Anu came to my mind again today because I saw new pictures and she was using pencils to represent landscapes and I thought of the latest events and how powerful pencils are. To write, to draw...and to think.

"When an object is handmade you can see the artist's unique touch in it. Hand, as well as time and labour, have left their marks on the worn object. A handmane object is full of fingerprints." Anu Tuominen.

[CAT] El primer Pleased to Meet You de l'any està dedicat a l'artista finlandesa Anu Tuominen i al seu meravellós treball. Ella és una artista conceptual que explora, entre d'altres temes, mètodes per traduïr idees lingüistes en el seu equivalent visual. Com si fes jocs de paraules...però amb imatges ben poètiques.

La vaig descobrir per primera vegada rel d'una exposició titulada "Ditades" on utilitzava agafadors de cuina fets de ganxet com a matèria prima.

La manera que utilitza el color és hipnotitzant i sedant. Em recorda a alguna de les fotos que he vist de The Dainty Squid (els seus tresors de la platja) que és sempre font d'inspiració.

Anu m'ha tornat al cap avui perquè he vist unes fotos noves on utilitza llapis per representar paisatges i m'han vingut a la ment els esdeveniments recents i com de poderosos poden ser els llapis. Per escriure, dibuixar...i pensar.

Pleased to Meet You: Lydia Shirreff

[ENG]  Lydia Kasumi Shirreff defines herself as a paper engineer. It's the first time I hear this term but I perfectly understand it whenever looking at any of Lydia's work.

She is a 3D paper modeler and illustrator who takes inspiration from minerals and vintage astronomy books.

Shirreff's paper works include collaborations, international projects and indie designs for a wide variety of clients. I really like the vibrant colours she uses...

Amazing how paper can make objects look real...

Let's face it...my paper cranes will never, ever, ever, look nothing like her work... But I still have a good time trying to make'em.

[CAT] Lydia Kasumi Shirreff es defineix com una enginyera del paper. És un terme que no havia sentit en la vida però clar, tampoc no m'havia trobat amb peces com les que fa ella. O sigui que hi ha gent que de l'art de l'origami en fa una professió i amb resultats molt guapos.

Fa figures de paper tridimensionals i també és il·lustradora (punt a favor que l'ajuda) i s'inspira en minerals i llibres d'astronomia vells. De les seves feines, destaquen col·laboracions, projectes internacionals i dissenys indie per una ampla varietat de clients. Molen molt els colors vibrants que sovint fa servir...

Flipant com el paper pot crear objectes tant reals.

Siguem realistes...les meves pobres "grulles" 

de paper mai, ni en un milió d'anys, s'hi assemblaràn el més mínim...però jo m'ho passo bé igual fent-les!

Pleased to Meet You: Samantha French

[ENG] First post of 2014 (Happy New Year!!) and its about...painting! Yes, the pictures look like...pictures but in fact they are oil paintings made by Samantha French, from north central Minnesota.
The idea of her work is to explore the idea of escape, the tranquility and nostalgia for the lazy summer days of her childhood. Staring at them is like feeling the summer breeze.
The artist captures the bright sunlight glistening off the top of the water and shining up from the ground, and her subjects appear weighless as they move around, breaking through the surface and diving deep to explore the tranquility of darker waters.

La idea de la seva feina és explorar l'escapada, la tranquilitat i la nostalgia dels dies mandrosos d'estiu de la seva infantesa. Mirant-los és pràcticament com sentir la brisa de l'estiu
L'artista captura la llum que es reflexa damunt l'aigua i brillant fins al fons, i els seus personatges sembla que siguin lleugers com l'aire mentre es mouen a l'aigua i s'enfonsen cap a aigües més fosques.

Pleased to Meet You, Ingela P. Arrhenius

[ENG] A long time since my last Pleased to Meet You, so today I bring you this absolutely fabulous swedish illustator influenced by the design of the 50's and 60's, Ingela P. Arrhenius. I absolutely adore her work and everything she does. 

My interest on her started when I saw her crazy animal matrioskas but later I discovered her plates, prints, postcards (I have one as a birthday postcard, lucky me!), 2D-puzzles, infant books...everything.

I WANT EVERYTHING!!

So I'd better start saving some money because I really want to have some of her work home. And if you want it too, you can find it at OMM Design or at Lagom Design.

[CAT] Molt de temps (massa potser) des de l'últim Pleased to Meet You, així que avui us duc a una brillant il·lustradora sueca molt influenciada per les dècades dels 50 i 60, Ingela P. Arrhenius. Em flipa absolutament tot el que fa. 

Em va cridar l'atenció la primera vegada que vaig veure les seves matrioskes particulars i més tard va seguir al descobrir els plats, les postals (tengui!), els puzzles, els llibres infantils...

I és que HO VULL TOT!

Així que de moment més em val començar a estalviar una micona per poder fer-me amb algún dels seus tresors. I si vosaltres també en voleu la podeu trobar a OMM Design o aLagom Design.

[ENG] It's been a looooong time since the last Pleased to Meet You but today I bring you something I

discovered a long ago but as you see, I'm a little busy lately and I'm not posting that much...She is Kate Davies from Scotland and knits lovely stuff and the best is that you can buy her patterns is you are interested....

She describes herself as a person who enjoys designing knitwear (yes, she does!). Lucky us!

I really want to improve my knitting skills, because I'm in love with almost all her patterns.

[CAT] Fa moltíssim temps des de l'últim Pleased to Meet You però avui us duc algo que crec que us agradarà i que fa temps que tinc, però com últimament he anat una mica liada doncs no he pogut publicar tant com voldria... Ella és Kate Davies, una noia escocesa que fa preciositats amb punt i el millor és que pots comprar els seus patrons per fer les teves peces.

Ella es descriu com a una persona que li agrada dissenyar roba de punt (i tant que li agrada!!). Afortunades nosaltres!

Realment tinc ganes de millorar les meves habilitats amb el punt, perquè m'agraden pràcticament tots els patrons que té.

Pleased to Meet You: Shauna Richardson

[ENG] It's been five minutes since I've meet this wonderful work and all because Las Niñas Antiguas together with other crochet addicts will be involved in a project that I hope it ends with something nice...We'll have to wait to see the results.

But let's focus on Shauna and her crochetdermy. Simple irresistible....and amazing by the way. 

This british artist makes a unique body of work-realistic life-size animal sculptures created using crochet.

So well, it is the perfect way to get insipiration for our project to be but I'm sure we won't achieve the same result, ever! Fortunately there she is to continue with this amazing work.

[CAT] No fa ni cinc minuts que acabo de descobrir aquesta passada de feina i tot perquè Las Niñas Antiguas junt amb d'altres boges per les agulles aviat ens veurem liades en un projecte que espero que acabi bé i amb algo interessant doncs ara mateix sona a bogeria impossible per qüestió de temps.

Però bé, centre'm-nos en la Shauna i la seva ganxetdermis. Simplement irresitible...i al.lucinant en certa manera.

Aquesta artista britànica fa peces úniques a tamany real de peces que serien pròpies d'un taxidermista però en ganxet!!

Així que ens servirà per agafar alguna que altra idea tot i que dubto molt que arribem a assolir el mateix resultat. Però vamos, sort que hi és ella per anar continuant amb aquesta feina flipant.

[ENG] You know what, I don't remember how I found the blog page for Gingermelon Dolls but it's just wonderful so today's pleased to meet you is dedicated to Shelly a really talented mum. I really can't understand where do this superwomen find the time to do everything...
If you are interested in any of the patterns she makes, just go to her Etsy page and be delighted with those wonderful dolls.
What I like from her blog is that she shows you the step by step process on making her dolls and you can really see the time and love she uses for each one of them.
