Peppa Pig and her crochet pattern

[ENG] Some time ago I thought of crocheting a Peppa Pig for a daughter's friend of mine but I didn't know where to begin with because I'm not ready to do my own patterns so looking through the internet I found loads of them but in the end I decided to do the one I found here , and I'm happy with the result.

Lopapeysa, the Icelanic sweater

[ENG] Now that it's been a while since I came back from Iceland and the colder weather is arriving, let's talk about the lovely Lopapeysa sweaters the icelandics knit.

As the information above says, the lopapeysa is an icelandic style of knitted sweater made of thick sheep wool. It has kept icelanders warm for longer than 66º north, and is still used by young and old.

And why are they still using them? ( And I tell you it is true, everybody around was wearing them!!). As you know, since the beginning of the international crisis that is affecting us, the icelandics decided to punish the bankers and they imprisoned them amongst other things. One of this things ended up to be being proud of their origins and their roots so this sweaters are a sort of a tradition they are very proud of.  People design their own patterns, develop new techniques and meet with other knitters to share tips and tricks. The lopapeysa is sensible (one of the few sensible items of clothing in the average Icelander’s wardrobe), it’s practical and kind of social.

If you ever visit Iceland (you have to!!!) you will find shops selling this wonderful sweaters everywhere (meaning everywhere with people...) but I recommend you to stop by the Hand knitted Association of Iceland so you'll make sure you buy real handknitted products made buy a group of women from Iceland. In fact, when you buy one, there is a label on it with the name of the lady who made it...isn't it wonderful?

But if you want to try and make your own, you can buy some books (Lopi , Knit you own Lopapeysa, Icelandic knitting, Knitting with icelandic wool, Icelandic knitting or Icelandic color knitting) or find some patterns on the internet like here.

[CAT] Ara que ja fa una mica des que vaig tornar d'Islàndia (sniiiif!!) i que la fresqueta arriba, parlem de la meravella dels jerseis islandesos, els Lopapeysa.

Com diu la informació de dalt, el lopapeysa és un tipus de jersei fet amb llana gruixuda de les ovelles islandeses. Ha fet que els islandesos estiguessin calentets als seus 66º Nord i son utilitzat tant per joves com per grans.

I per què encara els utilitzen? (I dono fe d'això; tothom els duu). Com bé sabeu, des del començament de la crisi mundial que ens afecta, els islandesos van decidir castigar als banquers i els van posar a la presó entre d'altres coses. I una d'aquestes altres coses és estar orgullosos dels seus origens i les seves arrels i així doncs aquests jerseis son una mena de tradició que llueixen amb orgull. La gent dissenya els seus propis patrons (fan de tot!), desenvolupen noves tècniques i comparteixen consells i trucs. No és ostentós, és pràctic i en certa manera, social.

Si mai visiteu Islània (ho heu de fer!) trobareu un munt de botigues on els venen (vamos, allà on hi ha gent, perquè pots estar hores sense creuar-te amb ningú) però jo us recomano comprar-los a la Hand knitted Association of Iceland de manera que us assegurareu que és fet a mà per alguna dona de l'associació (amb guanys per elles). De fet, quan en compres, hi ha una etiqueta amb el nom de la dona que l'ha teixit (escrit a mà per ella mateixa!)...no és fantàstic?

It's Helga, the elephant!!!

[ENG] I'm about to start my last week of holidays so I won't have as much time as I've been having lately, but I can show you the last thing I've made this week... an elephant!! And her name is Helga. Do you like her?

I took the pattern (and the name) from Birch Fabrics blogpage. I was visiting the blog because I've just fallen in love with their fabrics (I think I might start a section on my blog about fabrics and where to buy them cause there are so many amazing designers you must know them!!!) and I found this nice pattern. And this pattern together with my Amy Butler fabrics had to be the perfect match, so I decided to make it.

It is very easy to do so I invite you to try it, the result is wonderful!!!

[CAT] Estic apunt de començar la meva última setmana de vacances i ja no tindré tant temps lliure com el que he tingut últimament, però encara sóc a temps d'ensenyar-vos l'última cosa que he fet aquesta setmana...un elefant! Es diu Helga. Us agrada?

Vaig treure el patró (i el nom) del blog de Birch Fabrics. L'estava visitang perquè acabo de descobrir i d'enamorar-me les seves teles (de fet crec que hauria de començar secció aquí sobre teles, disenyadors i on comprar-les) i allà vaig trobar aquest patró tant xulo. I aquest patró junt amb les teles que encara em queden d'Amy Butler pensava que farien la combinació perfecta i vaig decidir provar.

És molt fàcil de fer així que us invito a que ho proveu, el resultat és molt xulo!!

A case for my crochet hooks

[ENG] As you know, during the summer it is the period of time where we can have more time to be creative so I used this time and some spare yarn to built up a case for my crochet hooks. I had been seeing them for a while and yesterday i decided I would try to do my own. 

To do it I just prepared the outside with a nice crocheted pattern and the inside with some nice fabrics I already had. 

The crocheted part came from the book "El gran libro de muestrario de ganchillo". I wanted to do some arcs so I found that one, big enough so you could see the fabric underneath. I decided to use a white fabric because so could see the pattern better and the inner part I took an Amy Butler's fabric (I love her designs!!!).

The size is something you need to think of...it depends on the amount of things you want to keep inside. I have a nice collection of hooks so I decided to make it wide enough for all my hooks and the sizes of the pockets inside different because I have different size hooks so everything fits inside with no problem.

One thing you must be careful while sewing the pockets, is to be sewing parallel to the fabric, so don't go in a rush and take your time to sew nice parallel pockets.

[CAT] Com bé sabeu, a l'estiu és quan una té més temps per ser creativa (se suposa!) així que jo he utilitzat aquest temps i una mica de llana de sobres que tenia porai per fer-me un estoig per les agulles de ganxet. Feia temps que les anava veient per aquí i per allà i ahir vaig decidir que provaria de fer-me la meva.

Per fer-la vaig pensar que la part de fora la faria amb un patró xulo de ganxet i la part de dins amb teles que tenia per casa.

El patró de ganxet el vaig treure del llibre "El gran libro de muestrario de ganchillo". Volia fer uns arcs i el patró que vaig trobar em va semblar prou xulo, prou gran perquè es veiés la tela de sota. Vaig decidir que aquesta tela de sota fos blanca perquè lluís el ganxet i per la part de dins amb els ganxets vaig agafar una tela d' Amy Butler (em flipa, flipa i reflipa).

El tamany és algo que heu de decidir segons les coses que hi voleu posar a dins...Jo tinc un bon pilonet d'agulles de ganxet així que la vaig fer prou ampla perquè hi capigués tot dins...i sense oblidar que el tamany de les butxaques fos diferent doncs hi ha agulles fines i gruixudes. Al tanto que al final no us hi càpiguen!!!

Ah, i una cosa amb la que heu de parar atenció a l'hora de cosir, és anar ben paral.leles a l'hora de fer les butxaques, que us podríeu trobar que queden tortes i es veurien lletjes i no seria massa pràctic tampoc, no?
