My (crafty) New Year's Resolutions

[ENG] Isn't it funny that I want to talk about my new year's resolutions precisely today, the day supposed to be the blue monday (there is a name for every day nowadays) and the day they say it's the saddest of the year?

Well...I don't really care. 

I've been reading other friends resolutions and I decided I'd do the same. Let's see if I can achieve any of them.

1. The first one...I want to be as creative as Tres Pompones. Well, not really...in fact...I want to be Tres Pompones!! Her knowledge level goes from crocheting to preparing these furniture wax, and in between she also tells you the best way to keep your cd's in the minimum space possible. And yet, she would hesitate to knit herself a princess Leia bun hat and wear it with all that glamour. 

But, let's be realistic, the first resolutions is already hard to reach...so let's try to figure out something else...Let's start again.

1.b. I want to finish my f******* blanket! After two years (two!) I think it's about time to do so... Well, because if you are thinking on crocheting a blanket for your bed (not your child's bed)....FORGET IT!! It is a nightmare!!! And if you see some amazing offers for cheap yarn...Run!!

I once read "Life is to short to by cheap yarn"...do you want to know why someone said it? Because you end up buying 3kg of yarn and after 2 years you still cannot see the end of that once loved blanked. 

Oh yes, and if you want to make it even harder...don't use the typical granny squares, no, no, no, just use the african flower crochet pattern.

Did I say two years yet?

2. I want to knit a jumper! And not just any jumper...I want to knit one Kate Davies designed. The one with the owls...

But I guess that if I wanna knit a jumper like this, I'd better start practising...but if I do so...when will I finish the f****** blanket, previously mentioned? Oh lord...give me strength...

3. I've been following Isabelle Kessedjian for a long time now, and I knew about her crocheted dolls book. But that was the end of the story until mid summer when I found it in spanish and I also saw the one Tricotoseando did...with that amazing ginger hair... (by the way, on my third life, I want to be her...remember, the second one is already taken by Tres Pompones). 

It is a clear example of "culoquierismo"... I couldn't stop it.

4. I want to have my blog a little more active...it seems to be working (so far...)

My gosh, I already feel tired...and I just put four resolutions...I think I'll just leave it here and try to get these ones by mid year...oh no, I forgot one is the f****** blanket!

I'd better go and continue with the bitchy  african flowers.

[CAT] No és una mica curiós que precisament avui us vulgui parlar dels meus propòsits d'any nou? Avui diuen que és el blue monday (si és que ara per ara posen nom a tots els dies) i diuen que és el dia més trist de l'any.

Jo de fet és que he estat llegint els propòsit d'altres i he decidit que faria el mateix, toma ya! A veure si aconsegueixo assolir-ne algún...

1. Allà va el primer... vull ser tant creativa com Tres Pompones. Bé, no exactament...de fet...jo vull ser ella! El seu nivell de coneixements van des del ganxet fins a preparar una fantàstica cera reparadora de mobles, i entremig a sobre et dona consells de com guardar els teus cd's en el mínim espai possible. Ah, i a sobre no dubtarà en teixir-se un barret de princesa Leia i dur-lo amb tot el glamour...

Pero siguem realistes, el primer ja és impossible d'aconseguir...així que intentaré abaixar les aspectatives...tornem a començar.

1.b. Vull acabar la p*** manta! Després de dos anys (dos!!!) crec que ja va essent hora per fer-ho...Bé, si per alguna raó estàs pensant en teixir una manta pel teu llit (que no parlem d'un llit petit, per més inri)...OBLIDA-HO! És un malson!! I si per casualitat veus una magnífica oferta de llana barateta (que a sobre serà acrílica)...Corre!

Un cop vaig llegir una frase que deia "La vida és massa curta per comprar llana barata"...i voleu saber perquè és així? Doncs perquè acabes amb 3 kg (literals) de llana i després de dos anys encara no veus el final del que una vegada (molt llunyana) va ser el teu adorat projecte.

Ah sí, i si a sobre et vols complicar més la vida, no facis un simple granny, vés a per el patró de la flor africana.

2. Vull teixir un jersei! I no un jersei qualsevol...què va! Vull fer-ne un de la Kate Davies. Aquell dels mussols tant repreciós.

Però imagino que per fer una cosa així millor seria que comencés a practicar...però si ho faig...quan acabaré la p*** manta, que ja he citat anteriorment? Oh déu, dòna'm força...(que no tinc clar que em quedi paciència ni quan acabi aquestes ratlles...em sulfuro per moments.)

3. Fa temps que segueixo a Isabelle Kessedjian , i també sabia del seu llibre de nines de ganxet. Però fins aquí arribem al final de la història...fins aquest estiu quan vaig trobar el llibre en espanyol i a sobre vaig veure la que va fer la Tricotoseando...amb aquell fantàstic cabell pèl-roig...(per cert, a la meva tercera vida vull ser ella...recordeu que a la segona seré la Tres Pompones).

És un clar exemple de "culoquierismo" però és que no ho he pogut evitar. 

4. M'agradaria tenir el blog una mica més actiu. De moment sembla que funciona...

Mare meva, estic esgotada...i això que m'he quedat només en quatre propòsits...em sembla que em planto aquí i potser m'ho proposo per a mitjans d'any,..ai no! que tinc la ditxosa manta!

Millor que vagi a fer les floretes africanes dels nassos.

Pleased to Meet You: Anu Tuominen

Fingerprints

[ENG] The first Pleased to Meet You of the year is dedicated to the finnish artist Anu Tuominen and her wonderful work.  She is a conceptual artist that explores, among other themes, methods of translating linguistic ideas into visual equivalent.

I first discovered her when I saw some pictures from her Fingerprints exhibition where she was using crocheted potholders as the main material source.

The way she uses colour is hipnotizing and relaxing at the same time. She reminds me of some of The Dainty Squid's pictures (her beach treasures)  who is always a source for inspiration and amusement.

Anu came to my mind again today because I saw new pictures and she was using pencils to represent landscapes and I thought of the latest events and how powerful pencils are. To write, to draw...and to think.

"When an object is handmade you can see the artist's unique touch in it. Hand, as well as time and labour, have left their marks on the worn object. A handmane object is full of fingerprints." Anu Tuominen.

[CAT] El primer Pleased to Meet You de l'any està dedicat a l'artista finlandesa Anu Tuominen i al seu meravellós treball. Ella és una artista conceptual que explora, entre d'altres temes, mètodes per traduïr idees lingüistes en el seu equivalent visual. Com si fes jocs de paraules...però amb imatges ben poètiques.

La vaig descobrir per primera vegada rel d'una exposició titulada "Ditades" on utilitzava agafadors de cuina fets de ganxet com a matèria prima.

La manera que utilitza el color és hipnotitzant i sedant. Em recorda a alguna de les fotos que he vist de The Dainty Squid (els seus tresors de la platja) que és sempre font d'inspiració.

Anu m'ha tornat al cap avui perquè he vist unes fotos noves on utilitza llapis per representar paisatges i m'han vingut a la ment els esdeveniments recents i com de poderosos poden ser els llapis. Per escriure, dibuixar...i pensar.

Vintage Fest at Mercantic

[ENG] Part of my new year resoltions is to reactivate the blog and see if I can meet new people while showing you my projects, what I like and places I visit, and to do so I will start with my visit at Mercantic last...october.... I know, I know...three months ago...sorry...but here we are...better late than ever, isn't it?

We went on a sunday because we wanted to be at the Vintage Fest and that only takes place every month's first sunday. It is great because you can buy antiques coming from houses, apartments or factory clearances in the same state as from a dealer. And if you just want to have a walk around, it is a beautiful place with lots of antiques and cool stuff. 

They also have restaurants and bars with quite a nice atmosphere.

It was my first time there and I'd like to go again soon and see if I can buy some nice furniture or decoration since I realised the prices are not that bad.

[CAT] Part dels meus propòsits d'any nou és reactivar el blog i veure si conec a gent nova mentre ensenyo els meus projectes, el que m'agrada o simplement llocs que visito, i per fer-ho començaré amb la visita a Mercantic del passat...octubre...sí, ho sé, ho sé...fa tres mesos...ho sento...però ja diuen que millor tard que mai, no?

Hi vam anar un diumenge perquè voliem estar al Vintage Fest o la descarregada que es dóna el primer diumenge de cada mes. És genial perquè pots adquirir antiguitats que venen de cases o apartaments o de buidades de fàbriques i ho pots comprar al mateix tracte que els propis venedors. I si el que vols és fer el voleio és un lloc molt xulo amb coses molt guapetes.

A sobre tenen bars i restaurants amb una atmosfera molt xula.

Jo era la primera vegada que hi anava però m'agradaria tornar-hi algún dia per comprar algo perquè realment els preus estan molt bé.

New Year...and New Pattern! Vintage flower potholder

[ENG] I've always had a pair of vintage flower potholders at home. They came with me when I moved from my mum's house to Barcelona and they are pretty burned and destroyed but I always loved them. Maybe because they are so ugly (orange and brown it's not the combination I'd choose).
So I decided I'd make a pair of new ones and since I came up with the pattern, I just want to share it with you so you can make your own.

So here we go... 
To make sure it's thick enough you'll have to make two and join them together later on. Choose the colours you'll use.

Abbreviations / Abreviacions

ch = chain; cadeneta
st = stitch or stitches; punts
sc = single crochet (US), double crochet (UK); punt baix
dc = double crochet (US), treble (UK); punt alt
ss = slip stitch; punt nan

*this pattern is for a 10 petals flower
Start: Magic loop with 5 stitches. (5sc)

Round 1:  3ch (counts as 1dc), 9dc in ring, join with ss. (10dc)

Round 2:  3ch (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next st, 2dc in each st around, join with ss. (20dc)

Round 3:  3ch (counts as 1dc), 1dc in same st, 1ch, 2 dc in same stitch, *2dc, 1ch, 2dc in next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, join with ss. (40dc)

Round 4:  3ch (counts as 1dc), 2dc in same st, 1ch, 3dc in same stitch, *3dc, 1ch, 3dc in next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, join with ss. (60dc)

Round 5:  3ch (counts as 1dc), 3dc in same st, 1ch, 4dc in same stitch, *4dc, 1ch, 4dc in next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, join with ss. (80dc)

Round 6:  3ch (counts as 1dc), 9dc in same st, *10dc in next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, join with ss and fasten off (100dc)

Follow the same pattern to make the second one.

When you have finished both motifs, work in all loose ends. 

Place the 2 motifs against each other, right sides facing outward. 

Join yarn at the centre of two groupings (working through both pieces), make 20ch, ss into same stitch as joining. Work over the 20ch with sc until there are enough sc to make a strong loop. ss again into the same stitch as joining.

Crochet though both pieces using only ss, going down to the centre using the gaps on the motif. Make sure not to make the ss too tight. Once at the outer edge of the centre piece, turn around and go back up using the same spaces as you did going down. 

Once at the top, work around the scallop joining the two motifs together. Repeat this all around the motifs until you are back at your hanging loop. Join with a ss and fasten off. Work in loose ends. 

And let's cook!

[CAT] Sempre he tingut un parell d'agafadors de floretes vintage per casa. De fet van venir amb mi a Barcelona al meu primer pis i estàn força atrotinats (cremats i fets pols de fet). I m'encanten. Potser pel fet de ser horrorosos (bé, no, només és horrorosa la combinació de colors, taronja i marró (!!!) tant setantera. O més aviat perquè sempre els he tingut. 
I ja feia temps que en volia fer uns de nous i ara ha estat el moment. I aprofitant que n'he tret el patró (una mica adaptat, perquè alguns punts no es veuen clars), el comparteixo aquí amb vosaltres per si mai en voleu fer. 

Així que...som-hi!

Per assegurar-vos que és prou gruixut i no us cremeu, n'haureu de fer un parell i després ajuntar-los. De moment, escolliu els colors que més us agradin i agafeu una agulla que vagi bé amb el gruix del cabdell.

Inici: Anell màgic de 5 punts (5)

Volta 1:  3ch (conta com a 1dc), 9dc a l'anell, ajunta amb ss. (10dc)

Volta 2:  3ch (conta com a 1dc), 1dc en el següent punt, 2dc a cada  punt del voltant, ajunta amb ss. (20dc)

Volta 3:  3ch (conta com a 1dc), 1dc al mateix punt, 1ch, 2 dc al mateix punt, *2dc, 1ch, 2dc al següent punt*, repeteix de * a* tot al voltant, uneix amb ss. (40dc)

Volta 4:  3ch (conta com a 1dc), 2dc al mateix punt, 1ch, 3dc al mateix punt, *3dc, 1ch, 3dc al següent punt*, repeteix de * a* tot al voltant, uneix amb ss.(60dc)

Volta 5:  3ch (conta com a 1dc), 3dc al mateix punt, 1ch, 4dc al mateix punt, *4dc, 1ch, 4dc al següent punt*, repeteix de * a* tot al voltant, uneix amb ss. (80dc)

Volta 6:  3ch (conta com a 1dc), 9dc in same st, *10dc in next stitch*,repeteix de * a* tot al voltant, uneix amb ss. i tanca (100dc).

Segueix el mateix patró per fer el segon agafador. 
Quan acabis, amaga tots els fils que et sobrin.
Posa els dos agafadors junts, amb el dret mirant en fora. 
Ajunta'ls amb un fil nou (travessa els dos agafadors) amb 20 ch, ss al mateix punt mentre ajuntes. Torna a treballar sobre els 20 punts amb sc fins que sigui un anell prou fort. 
Ara treballa els dos agafadors fent només ss anant cap al centre de la peça, utilitzant els forats que quedent entre els diferents grups de semicercles. No apretis massa. Quan arribis al límit de la peça central, gira i puja amunt teixint per l'altre costat amb ss (també seguint els forats d'abans).

Un cop a dalt de tot, ves unint els dos agafadors junts (amb ss) tot al voltant de la peça. Ajunta amb un ss i acaba. Amaga els fils que sobrin.

Tanit, Guerau and Lalylala's toys

[ENG] Three months ago, my best friend gave birth to tiny Tanit and awesome Guerau. 

I know I had to do something special appart from the bibs I already gave her. But, I was pretty sure it wasn't gonna be that something you can use all the time...I mean, it was going to be something cute. As simple and useless as that. 

And they loved it!

I've known Lalylala for a while now, and this its been the perfect excuse to get some of her wonderful patterns. They are so sweet. I wish I could get all of them, and also have the time (specially the time!) to make them, but doing two as a start isn't that bad, right?

It took me a while, but to be true it was more connected to my three thousand other things I am doing right now and not the proper pattern. It has some tricky parts, but once you understand what she means, it is very simple.

So during "Sant Esteve" we did the "tió" (yes, the magic log...) again and Tanit and Guerau got their presents, Dirk the dragon and Mici the mermaid.

I hope you like them.

[CAT] Fa tres mesos, la meva millor amiga va tenir a la petita Tanit i a en guapíssim Guerau.

Sabia que havia de fer algo especial (bé, no havia, més aviat, volia...) apart dels pitets que ja els hi vaig fer fa un temps. Però estava força segura que no seria res massa útil, que poguessis fer servir tota l'estona...més aviat seria algo "mono". Tant simple i inútil com això.

I els va encantar!!

Conec Lalylala de fa ja un temps, i aquesta ha estat l'excusa perfecta apoderar-me d'algún dels seus patrons. Son tant xulos... Ojalà els tingués tots, i sobretot, sobretot, tenir el temps (especialment el temps) per fer-los. Però fer-ne dos per començar no està malament, no?

Em van dur una mica de temps, però no pel patró en sí (que tenia el seu que) sinó per les altres tres mil coses que faig alhora, entre el curro i tot plegat.

Així que durant el dinar de Sant Esteve vam tornar a fer el tió un altre cop i la Tanit i en Guerau van tenir els seus regalets, el drac Dirk i la sirena Mici.

Working as an Elf

[ENG] Last november it was my birthday and a friend of mine gave me a lovley handmade body scrub. She did it, for me!! Sea salt, almond oil, lemon zest and eucalyptus... All natural. All wonderful. 

So I immediately thought about my christmas presents and asked her if she'd like to tell me how to make them. And we did prepare it not while ago, on a sunday evening while drinking margaritas. The perfect plan, isn't it?

Since I knew some of my friends would like to come, I told Tres Pompones, Tatxin Tatxan and Pilar, and they where pleased to come (not sure if the reason was the body scrub or the margaritas though...). We where lucky ( and probably thanks to a diogenes syndrome hidden there... ;) ) because Roser and Paula brought lots of essences and different type of oils so we could make a wide variety of them.

It is very easy to make (basically mix everything together and then end it with a nice "DIY" touch. If you wanna have a step by step, here I leave you this link.

[CAT] El passat novembre va ser el meu cumple, i una bona amiga em va regalar un exfoliant natural fet per ella. (Yuhu!"). Sal marina, oli d'ametlla, ratlladura de llimona i essència de llimona...Tot natural. Tot fantàstic.

Inmediatament se'm va ocórrer que seria una molt bona idea de regal de nadal i li vaig preguntar si me n'ensenyaria. Així que ho vam fer no fa massa dies enrere, un diumenge tot bebent margarites. El plan perfecte, no?

Com que vaig pensar que a algunes colegues els interessaria, vaig aviar a la Pilar, a Tres Pompones i a Tatxin Tatxan i van estar encantades de venir (no tinc clar si per l'exfoliant o pels margarites però...). Afortunadament, i molt possiblement per un síndrome de diógenes no resolt, la Roser i la Paula van dur un munt d'olis, essències i andròmines varies, així que vam poder fer un munt de combinacions al final.

És un procés super fàcil i en realitat molt ràpid de fer, però ja se sap, margarita va, margarita ve...de totes maneres us deixo aquest enllaç per si voleu saber exactament com fer-ho.

Let's sew... More dolls!

[ENG] It's been a long time since I sewed this pattern for the last time, but I recieved a special order the other day and here are the results. What is different from the other times is that I changed the pattern in one of them because they wanted a boy. So the blonde one, although it might look the same, has different hair style (not as curvy in the forehead and with some messy hair at the back) and is wearing trousers and a sleeveless t-shirt. I hope they like them!

[CAT] Ara feia molt de temps que no cosia cap nina d'aquestes, però em va arribar un encàrrec especial així que aquí en teniu els resultats. El que he canviat en una d'elles és una mica el patró doncs volien un nen, i per tant he modificat una mica el cabell ( menys arrissadet pel front i amb una mica de cresta despentinada com si tingués un remolí), el cos és recte i duu uns pantalons curtets a conjunt amb una samarreta sense mànigues. Espero que els agradin com han quedat!
